New Video Card
Mom's giving me $300 bucks from her tax return. hehe.
Anyway, I need a video card. AGP 4x/8x
What do you suggest? I'd like to run most games, atleast on medium graphics.
I'll probably be shopping for a while. I dunno when the hell do you get your tax return anyway?

Yeah, I know...
Why did you buy an AGP board?
Anyway, the 7800GS AGP just came out, but I think it is AGP. The fastest AGP card that you can get in that price range is going to be like a 6800GT, but the rest of your system is to slow to even use all of that card.
If I were you, I would about 160-170 bucks on an AGP 6600GT.

I'll probably get that.
I'll be upgrading to a better cpu soon enough that it won't matter.
Or I could wait, and get all my upgrades in a month.
We'll see. But I'm sure I'll be getting that card.

That's a pretty good option, but the rest of your system will bottleneck that card, I think. What were the system specs on your computer again??

The cpu is kind of cheap, and the mobo isn't really an OC'er, so I'm probably going to put a few hundred into that before the video card.
That power supply is enough to put a video card like that on it right?
I'm afraid of that more than anything else.

Yeah, if I were you, I would put some money into the CPU and mobo first. The reason that I say that is that if you buy an AGP video card now, then you will just have to buy another video card later if you decide to upgrade the board. All new boards are PCI-E.
I don't really know much about that PSU, but it does have dual 12v rails, so it should be OK.

Yeah, I think that this is the wisest route.
But when I get my new mobo, and CPU, I'll also have to drop the cash for a video card, since there are no good mobo's with onboard graphics.
What PCI-e card would you suggest?
Say I get a 3.0 P4, with a nice new mobo, and everything is good. What's a decent card, that will run most games on highest settings.
Would the 6800Gt cover me? I probably won't be running SLI at all.

My mom is very do-able.
dude if you have a budgte then go for the 6800gs. its good and its a hell of alot cheaper then the 7800gt. i garuantee you that a 6800gt or gs will run anything and everything for a long time to come, no doubts about it. and really the only difference between the 6800gt and the 7800gt is the core clock and the memory clock speeds. unless you go with the god like 512md version of the 7800gtx. but, thats what im getting is the 6800gs.

Yeah, I know...
Most of the reviews that I have read show the 6800GTO as being slower than the 6800GS.Lexon Avery wrote:i have a 6800, i htink its aobut equal to a GT, but i can play every thing...i on some pretty dam good looking graphics settings.
