This is pretty similar to the Gulf of Tonkin incidentFThompson08 wrote: As the President if the CIA and FBI tell you something you listen to it.

OK Rosie O'Donnel. Gulf Of Tonkin was an incident made up by the executive branch. In this case there was a world consinsise that Iraq had WMDs. If this was just an incident made up by Bush, why did Clinton and everyone in Congress since 1998 say that he has WMDs
My ass is on fire right now. My side hurt, my mouth hurt... I bust my ass. I'd show you the marks, but I don't wanna pull my pants down right now... I got my teeth fixed the same day. Rich isajeep teeth."

My point is, the government lies about stuff all the time to get what it wants. In '61 or '62 the CIA began operations against NVA targets to provoke them.FThompson08 wrote:OK Rosie O'Donnel. But your point is misguided, you can't compare a deceptive lie like Gulf of Tonkin to years of world wide intelligence gathering that ends in someone finally saying enough is enough to a brutal dictator. Also another irrefudable fact about the war is that Saddam broke the Gulf War treaty 17 times, the first breach of the agreement could have been considered an act of war.

First off, the intelligence was obviously wrong... and second, Why dont we just invade every country that has a leader that kills his own? Welp, lets add another 55 countries to our list to attack.FThompson08 wrote:But your point is misguided, you can't compare a deceptive lie like Gulf of Tonkin to years of world wide intelligence gathering that ends in someone finally saying enough is enough to a brutal dictator.
He broke 17 UN resolutions.... and I know you of all people hold the UN in such high esteem.FThompson08 wrote:Also another irrefudable fact about the war is that Saddam broke the Gulf War treaty 17 times, the first breach of the agreement could have been considered an act of war.
If breaking UN resolutions is such a big deal, why arent you calling for an attack on Israel?

OK the intelligence may have been wrong, however, if a large group of people you trust tell you someone is going to kill you and you know that he is know to kill others and doesn't like you, what will you do?
And the resolution he broke was a U.N. one, but it was basically an American treaty. I hate the U.N., however, this was a trety that we basically created.

Trust them or not, the top man takes the blame for wrong intelligence. Its not like this is the only thing this administration goofed up on.FThompson08 wrote:OK the intelligence may have been wrong
This is not something like oops I picked up the wrong kinda cheese at the grocery store. This is a several trillion dollar and over 25,000 casualty mistake.
This just sounds funnyFThompson08 wrote:And the resolution he broke was a U.N. one....... I hate the U.N.

I don't even think we have spent 1 trillion on this war, and the deficit was at that number, adjusted for inflation, long before Bush was in office.

1) we had a surplus of the federal budget when Bush entered office
2) http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11880954/
And here is an article from early 2006 that says this:
"and one estimate puts the total economic impact at up to $2 trillion."
THis of course is probably MUCH higher by now as the article states the cost increases by 200 million every day

Even if the U.S. exits Iraq within another three years, total direct and indirect costs to U.S. taxpayers will likely by more than $400 billion, and one estimate puts the total economic impact at up to $2 trillion.

And then a second estimate by "William Nordhaus, a Yale economist who published perhaps the most extensive independent estimate of the potential costs" who suggests the war could cost up to 1.9 trillion dollars
And then a third estimate by "Joseph Stiglitz, a Nobel Prize-winning economist and self-described opponent of the war, puts the final figure at a staggering $1 trillion to $2 trillion,"
