Im out of the loop... what is the deal with this Conroe processor? I know nothing about it.

What is the big difference between the Conroe and the Pentium D for example.... anything.

The Conroe is a new architecture. It is much more efficient and can do a lot more in each clock cycle. From what I understand, a 2.4 Conroe can do what a 3.8 Prescott can do.


Oh, and you have to have a new board.

Yeah, I knew about the new board. Its like 975 or something ,isnt it.

Thanks for the info. I guess since there is a slower clock speed, it runs a lot cooler?

It will be on the 965 chipset. The 975 may support it but it is not official yet. It is suposed to be much cooler and be faster than a AMD at the same clockspeed!!! I'm gonna wait for true benchmarks before I say much else.

I still don't know what they are talking about as far as them dropping into current motherboards. Everything that I have read elsewhere is that it will need the new chipset (965).
